I have been a secondary science teacher for 15 years, but have become increasingly interested in the brain and its role in learning and self-regulation. Why don't we teach young people about the brain from an early age? Would this help young people to cope with the challenges they face at school and home? What strategies could they use to help build their resilience? Also interested in mindfulness, I joined the MYRIAD (my resilience in adolescence) team. I review the social and emotional provision of the study schools as well as coordinate the public engagement programme linking the neuroscience, cognition and resilience research.
