Catalase and Immobilise Yeast (246)
‘A twist on measuring catalase', was published in 2016 by Bryer in Science Teacher (83, 69-73). The author immobilised yeast cells in a calcium alginate matrix to produce ‘yeast balls’ which were then used with solutions of H2O2 to test for catalase activity. Wonderful potential for investigations. Come and play!

The FSC Identikit is a way to create engaging web-based identification resources, e.g. multi-access keys to animals and plants. The software is driven ‘knowledge-bases’ created in Excel. No programming skills are required, just some familiarity with Excel and some knowledge of a group of animals or plants. Although Identikit can be used to create biological identificaiton resources for others to use, it is equally useful as a tool for individual learning.
