Given its importance, why is the nature of science (NoS) not always effectively taught in classrooms? I present the case that teacher beliefs are an important factor in determining how and/or if NoS is taught in classrooms. I will explore secondary-school science teachers’ beliefs using semi-structured interviews and lesson observations.

I am currently Director of Science for the BMAT Trust and recently completed my MA in science education with King's College London. I am really interested in the research surrounding the nature of science and teacher beliefs, and how these impact teaching and learning.
