Telford & Wrekin Council
Teaching and Learning Specialist / NQT Induction Manager
Telford
Starting my early teaching career in mining towns of the East Midlands, during a period of high unemployment had a major influence on me: learning must be engaging, relevant and have intrinsic value, allowing students to work creatively and develop self-confidence independence and resilience. The greatest compliment a past student has paid me was “You didn’t just teach us science, you taught us how to think!”
Since joining Telford and Wrekin LA 9 years ago as a school advisor and science consultant I have worked with all age groups from reception to post 16. I also work for a wide range of external partners including STEM Learning, AQA and ITT providers. I run both scheduled and bespoke in-school courses on a wide range of areas including: AfL, pedagogy, enquiry based learning, leadership and management.
As the LA NQT induction manager, I see many teachers working under immense pressure within a profession which presents increasing pressures on schools and teachers. A lot of the work I do focuses on re-igniting that spark of freedom and creativity in both teachers and learners. Effective learning and teaching should be exciting and fun.
